Overview
Natanz is
one of the earliest human settlements on the Iranian plateau. Located on the north of Isfahan, this town
carries traces of Seljuk, Sassanid, Ilkhanid and Safavid architecture. We will
walk in the once Safavid summer resort and visit the most iconic
landmark of the city, the Jameh Mosque of Natanz. In this spectacular journey,
we will have a beautifully varied experience as we also visit one of the most
common tourist destinations in Iran, Abyaneh village. You will pass historic
sites to gain an insight into the rich culture and history of this red
village.
What To Expect
The tour begins early in the morning with a pick up at your
accommodation. We drive to Natanz which takes about 2 hours and once there
we will tour around the city. We visit the congregational mosque of Natanz,
also known as Natanz central mosque, which is the most important relic of the Islamic period in this city. This
congregational mosque represents the architectural history of three dynasties,
the Deylamids (the 10th century), Ilkhanids (14th
century) and Safavids (16-17th century). Then, we walk to the
local ceramic shops where you can watch the process of making hand crafted
and hand painted ceramics step-by-step and buy your favorite ones. After that,
we take a rest in a traditional teahouse to enjoy a refreshment. Then,
we drive for another 45 minutes to get to Abyaneh, a 2500-year
old village. We walk in this picturesque village to discover its hidden gems
and admire the highlights it holds, dating back to the Seljuk, Safavid and Qajarid
eras. We start from the old gate of
the village and continue to the Zoroastrian fire temple built in the
Sassanid era. To discover the Islamic history of the village we will visit
other landmarks such as the holy shrine, the congregational mosque
dating back to 1085 and the mausoleum of Shahzadeh Isa and Yahya. We
rest and eat lunch in a local restaurant and then head back to
Isfahan.
